I have owned this press pot for almost two years. I use it daily to make coffe at my desk at work. I compared this press to the 2 other traditional press pots I have at home. To start off, the quality and construction of this pot is quite good. The glass is thick and sturdy. The rubber gasket that seals around the filter does its job well and keeps the grounds in place.
The Trudeau does solve a problem typical of press pots: after the coffee is brewed and you pour your first cup, the grounds stay in contact with the remaining coffee. This leads to overextraction of the grounds which can give the coffee an off taste. In contrast, the Trudeau pot lifts the gounds out of the water so the brewed coffee won't spoil. However, the construction of this press pot prevents you from stirring the grounds and coffee while it is brewing (something I do with my other french presses). I have tried to -gently- swirl the coffee inside while brewing but this usually just results in spilled coffee. If you cannot stir the brewing mixture you often end up with weak coffee because all of the grounds did not get wet. Further you wouldn't want to keep your freshly brewed coffee in this pot anyway. The glass pot is not insulated and won't keep your coffee warm for very long. Frankly, considering the (high) cost of this press pot, you would be better off getting a Bodum french press and a thermos to pour the coffee into after brwewing.
