I bought my Trudeau pepper mill with many protests from my husband. "$40 for a pepper mill?!". I insisted that since it has a lifetime warranty, it would be great. It wasn't great. Within the first year, the plastic bit on the bottom where the grind comes out cracked. Luckily, I still had the receipt and the nice woman at the store where we purchased it gave us a replacement, free of charge. But that's about the store, not Trudeau the brand.
The second one cracked almost immediately but we hung on to it and just tried to use it gingerly. Now, 3 years later, the thing is useless. I called Trudeau and calmly stated my story and was immediately sent to some other department's voicemail. I left a message but my call was never returned. This is one of the suckiest products for its inflated price out there. BEWARE...
Description of Trudeau Alero Pepper Mill, Red
Red finish, ceramic grinder. Never rusts. Durable, quality-weight metal body. Cuts then grinds to maximize pepper flavor. Grinds dry herbs and spices including sea salt. Comes filled, ready-to-use.The Alero pepper grinder is painted a bold, polished-laquer shade of red. Tall and curvy like a large chess piece, this tool is designed to be gripped by the body while a top knob turns to grind pepper.
Its metal body houses the rustproof inner workings of grind gears (made from a high-grade ceramic), which mill peppercorns in a dual chop-then-grind method, releasing as much flavor as possible. Grinding in a clockwise motion yields a finer grind. For a coarser grind, turn the knob counterclockwise. (A sharp quarter turn clockwise will clean out the last bit of fine-ground pepper when it's time to switch to coarse.) Unscrew the small brushed steel knob at the top to open the mill for loading. The Alero mill comes ready to use, fully-loaded with black peppercorns. This mill may also be used to grind sea salt or spices.
The Trudeau Alero pepper mill is not dishwasher-safe. Wash by hand without immersing in water or holding under running tap. Use a damp cloth and mild detergent to clean the mill body. Towel dry thoroughly when clean. The pepper mill measures 2-3/4 inches in diameter by 8 inches tall.
